Mission Critical Software Defined Communication Systems
NextG Systems is developing a clean slate stack for current and next generation wireless communications.
As with Core and Edge networks, the Radio Access Network (RAN) is undergoing disaggregation and a shift toward open architectures. While open source components exist for parts of the O-RAN stack (e.g., SMO, xApps, RIC, O-Cloud), there is currently no open source CU/DU software suitable for commercial or tactical deployment. This creates a critical gap in the Open RAN ecosystem.
Commercial RUs are too closed to experiment with and evolved. SDRs for academic research are too expensive and not sufficiently performant.
Memory safety is critical to next generation mission critical systems. Our clean slate implementation leverages the Rust language and ecosystem.
All layers of the stack are optimized, including the 5G core, by removing the microservice based architecture and focusing on the exernal interfaces.
